A valid email address.

Introduction

The IADC WellSharp Drilling course covers the essential training for those currently working in a role that is expected to shut-in a well in case of unexpected flow. The course aims to reinforce and improve the candidate’s existing knowledge and appreciation of the various stages of shutting-in a well; from kick detection to shutting in the well safely, to monitoring once the well is shut in and monitoring the well-kill operation.

Please visit the IADC website or information about the program.

Requirements

IADC training levels Introductory to Supervisor are designed to be sequential and first-time candidates are expected to complete an IADC WellSharp introductory level course (or equivalent) before progressing to driller level. However, the training levels are also designed to be role-specific and dependent on the candidate’s work experience. For guidance and advice on which level of training you are eligible for, please get in touch.

Designed For

The Level 3 (Driller) course is designed for anyone expected to shut-in a well in case of unintended or unexpected flow, such as drillers and assistant drillers.

Course Delivery

Courses are offered every week in both Western and Eastern Canada and begin the Monday of each week. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss a customized schedule.

The 5-day course is delivered through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, group discussion, and drilling simulation exercises, supplemented by a classroom workbook and further self-study exercises. The course ends with an online assessment on the final day which will be administered by IADC and invigilated by an independent proctor.

Note: In the IADC WellSharp programme, IADC Driller Level candidates are taught in a separate class compared to the IADC Supervisor level candidates.

Certification

Candidates may select either "Surface & Subsea" or “Surface Only” BOP Stack certification. Successful completion of the course and a pass mark of 70% or above on the written assessment and the simulator assessment will result in the IADC WellSharp certification which is valid for two years.
